This article presents the epizootology of recent bluetongue disease as one of the most pressing issues related to the emergence of the infection -its unprecedented, repeated spread from traditional nosoareas to non-endemic areas. It also substantiates the fatal threat posed by previously exotic and new vector-borne diseases, whose nosoareas are progressively shifting northward due to the increased vector competence and capacity of vectors caused by global warming.
