The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of the drug Nomicef LC (cefquinome, a fourth-generation cephalosporin) in the treatment of various forms of mastitis in lactating cows compared to a reference drug based on ceftiofur (a third-generation cephalosporin). The work was performed on dairy cows diagnosed with subclinical, serous, catarrhal, and catarrhal-purulent mastitis. The animals were divided into groups receiving either the test drug or the reference drug. The study assessed clinical recovery rates and the duration of therapy. It was found that the efficacy of Nomicef LC ranged from 90,7 % to 97 %, depending on the form of the disease, which numerically exceeded the results of ceftiofur treatment. The greatest advantage (by 2,9 %) was recorded in the treatment of the catarrhal form. The use of cefquinome reduced the treatment duration for serous mastitis by 0,5 days and for catarrhal-purulent mastitis by 0,4 days. The obtained data indicate that the drug based on cefquinome is a highly effective agent for the therapy of mastitis in lactating cows. The intensification of therapy through more frequent administration (12-hour interval) is clinically justified and helps reduce losses in milk productivity.
